Psalm 68:8,9(7,8) – Part 5

Psalm 68:8 O God, when You went out before Your people, when You marched through the desert—Selah— 9 the earth shook, the heavens rained at the presence of God—the One of Sinai—at the presence of God, God of Israel.

Rabbi Trail:  The Bible is written in three ways at the same time.  We might be tempted to call it past, present and future.  Properly, it should be understood as completed (past), being done now (present) and not yet complete (future).  God is not time constrained like we are.  Furthermore; when God does something, it keeps on being done.  His will is so powerful He doesn’t have to “DO” anything, He sets things in motion and they keep on being done.

Take our own salvation, for instance.  God appeared at Sinai (and many other times) and He is going to appear again.  The earth shook, it’s still shaking and it will shake again.  The heavens rained at His presence, they are still raining in His presence, and they will continue to rain in the presence of God.  End RT.

The poet here, in Psalm 68 is quoting the prophet Deborah….  Judges 5:4 Adonai, when You came out from Seir, when You marched from Edom’s field, the earth trembled, the heavens also dropped, yes, the clouds dropped water. 5 The mountains quaked before Adonai, this Sinai at the presence of Adonai, the God of Israel!

Both Deborah and the psalmist are building on themes expressed by Moses… Deuteronomy 33:26 “There is none like God, Jeshurun, riding through the heavens to your aid and through the skies in His majesty.  Much later, Habakkuk builds in this once again.  Habakkuk 3:3 God comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His majesty covers the heavens, and His praise fills the earth.

We’ve been waiting for this great reality.  Revelation 1:7 “Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye shall see Him, even those who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth shall mourn because of Him. Yes, amen!”8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says Adonai Elohim, “Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty!”

So, my friends, which is it, is the Lord going forth from heaven or coming to the earth?  Of course, your answer will depend on your perspective.  This is one event.  If you’re in heaven, God is going forth, and if you’re in the earth (like most of us), then “behold Yeshua comes!”  Revelation 22:20 The One giving testimony to these things says, “Yes! I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Yeshua!  The important thing for you and me is that we are prepared to answer Amen when the Bridegroom appears.  Shalom shalom.
