RR Psalm 66:10 Part 5

Shalom,

Psalm 66:10 For You have tested us, O God—You have purified us, as silver is refined.

God has placed all of us into a smelting pot, to burn off the impurities and leave us set apart for His use.  Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined you, though not as much as silver. I tested you in the furnace of affliction.
That “smelting pot” or “furnace of affliction” is our life in this world.

Yes, when you said “Yes” to God, He began a work in you that has a destiny.  Paul said as much to the Philippians.  Philippians 1:6 I am sure of this very thing—that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the Day of Messiah Yeshua.

And what about the destiny I mentioned a moment ago?  That “destiny” is identical with the purpose God has in bringing us to Himself.  It’s more than a “yes” to God, it is the harvest of a consecrated life, dedicated to God and His purposes.  Romans 12:1 I urge you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice—holy, acceptable to God—which is your spiritual service.

Rabbi Trail: Notice that in this verse Romans 12:1 (and following through chapter 14) Paul is completing a holiness sandwich.  The foundation (bottom piece of bread) is Romans 6,7 and 8.  In those 3 chapters, Paul wrote a treatise on Holy living (living in victory over sin).

Then in Romans 9,10 and 11, Paul wrote a treatise on Messianic Judaism.  In these three chapters, Paul shares his heart for the inclusion of Jewish people in the body of Messiah, and that they (we) would remain identifiably Jewish.  We get this again in the book of Hebrews.

Paul then emerges from these six chapters (6 through 11) of Romans with yet another exhortation (which continues through Chapter 14 (another 3 chapters).  In Romans 12:1, Paul calls us to live holy, which he defines as “acceptable to God.”  End RT.

Peter also writes on this same subject.  As a side note: there are so many Scriptures on the subject of holiness, a blind man could pick them out at random.  1Peter 1:14 Like obedient children, do not be shaped by the cravings you had formerly in your ignorance. 15 Instead, just like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in everything you do. 16 For it is written, “Kedoshim you shall be, for I am kadosh.”

The world is constantly pouring it’s garbage into our lives.  We need to purify ourselves with a constant rhythm of purification through prayer, reading Scripture, worship, and other spiritual disciplines that will allow God to purify our hearts.

Psalm 51:4(2) Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin…. 12(10) Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

This is what it means, when we read… Philippians 2:12 Therefore, my loved ones, just as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence—work out your salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For the One working in you is God—both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Oh, and that destiny I mentioned before… nothing less than eternity in His presence.  Stop pouring in the junk of this world and allow God to do His perfect work in you.  Shalom shalom.
