RR Psalm 66:5-7 Part 3

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm 66:5 Come and see the works of God. How awesome His deeds for the children of Adam! 6 He turned the sea into dry land. They crossed the river on foot. There let us rejoice in Him! 7 He rules by His might forever. His eyes keep watch on the nations. Let no rebels exalt themselves. Selah

And, three short verses later, another “Selah!”  Again, God is awesome as He performs His deeds among the sons of men.  (The TLV translates it as “children of Adam.”). God is “over-ruling rebels” as He keeps watch over all the nations.  Let’s pause this meditate on that.

Near the end of verse 6, we find the word “there.”  “Sham” in Hebrew is the opposite of “Po.”  “Po” means “here” while “Sham” means “over there.”  This is written as if we just know where “there” is, and we do.  The Children of Israel passed through the Red Sea on dry land, and immediately sang a song about it.

Rabbi Trail:  Some theologians have believed that the Scripture really says “Sea of Reeds,” which would be a marsh.  That would explain how the children of Israel crossed over without a miracle, but it leaves us wondering how Pharaoh drowned in a marsh.  Let’s agree it is easier to believe the obvious.  God performed a miracle, and the children of Israel sang a song on the spot.  End RT.

Exodus 15:1 Then Moses and Bnei-Yisrael sang this song to Adonai: I will sing to Adonai, for He is highly exalted! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea. 2 Adonai is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will glorify Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. 3 Adonai is a warrior—Adonai is His Name!

The song of Exodus 15 goes on, but we’re going to stop here.  Selah, shalom shalom.
