RR Psalm 65:5 Part 3
Shalom,
Psalm 65:5 Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your House—Your holy Temple.
To be “chosen” by Yeshua is a blessing. Yeshua is speaking… John 15:16a “You did not choose Me, but I chose you.” But chosen for what? We have been chosen to join Yeshua in the “fellowship of His suffering.” Philippians 3:10 My aim is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death. As Jewish people joking say about themselves, in prayer to God. “We rejoice to be the chosen people, but could You choose someone else once in a while?”
The Hebrew word for “chosen” is “Ba’chur” *Bet-Chet-Resh), meaning to be appointed for a purpose. More specifically, that purpose is to be tried or tested. Jacob (James) wrote this… Jacob 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Peter also wrote about this issue… 1Peter 1:6 You rejoice in this greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials. 7 These trials are so that the true metal of your faith (far more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire) may come to light in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Messiah Yeshua.
The promise of the second part of our subject verse is that “we will be satisfied” with the goodness of God’s Temple. It is written as if our satisfaction is incomplete. We’re never done being satisfied with the goodness of God! God will continually (never stop) satisfying us.
Speaking of God’s Temple, that’s not some place that used to exist in the promised land, but rather it is near to where you are right now, and even within you. 1Corinthians 6:19 Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Ruach ha-Kodesh who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body. So then, there seems to be a great blessing for those who are chosen. Choose to be chosen. Yeshua chose you, choose Him back. Shalom shalom.
