RR Psalm 65:1-4 Part 1

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Psalm Psa 65:1 For the music director, a psalm, a song of David. 2  Praise is awaiting You in Zion, O God, and to You the vow will be fulfilled. 3 O You who hear prayer, to You all flesh will come. 4 Records of sins overwhelm me—You will atone for our transgressions.

Wahoo!  We hit the “mother load!”  This is better than I was expecting.  Listen to these words again (read them aloud if possible).  “You (God) will atone for our transgressions.”  Who is doing the atoning?  That’s right, Elohim is the name for God in verse 2.  We know Him as Yeshua HaMashiach, The Lord, our Messiah (The Anointed One).

Rabbi Trail: Let’s do a little “word smithing.”  There are two Hebrew words translated as “praise” and “prayer.”  They are “T’hi’lah” and “T’fi’lah” respectively.  The difference is the “Hey” in “T’hi’lah” is replaced with a “Fey” in “T’fi’lah.”  The “Hey” is the letter that represents God’s name (used twice in His name “Yehovah”), while the “Fey” is the letter representing work, “Po’el” in Hebrew.  The point is that praise is always in adoration of God while prayer is the “work” of praising God. Another way to read these verses is with the thought that “all flesh will come to God in Zion.”  Think about it… much of the world today is cursing Zion and Zionism.  Zion is a place, the land of Israel, while Zionism is the idea that Jewish people should live there.  Still, there will come a day (closer than we might think) when all flesh will come to Zion with joyful singing.  Isaiah saw that day…

Isaiah 51:11  Now the ransomed of Adonai will return, and come to Zion with singing. Everlasting joy will be upon their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

The Bible is full of consistent prophecy.…  Zechariah 14:16 Then  all the survivors from all the nations that attacked Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Adonai-Tzva’ot, and to celebrate Sukkot.  Yes, today the world is attacking Jerusalem (Zion), but soon the world will go up to Zion with gladness.  

Isaiah 2:2 It will come to pass in the last days that the mountain of Adonai’s House will stand firm as head of the mountains and will be exalted above the hills. So all nations will flow to it. 3 Then many peoples will go and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of Adonai, to the House of the God of Jacob! Then He will teach us His ways, and we will walk in His paths.” For Torah will go forth from Zion and the word of Adonai from Jerusalem.  See you in Zion.  Shalom shalom.
