RR Psalm 64:8-11 Part 3

Shalom,

Psalm 64:8 But God will shoot them with an arrow—suddenly their wounds will appear. 9 So their tongue will be their downfall. All who see them will flee away. 10 Then all men will fear. So they will declare the work of God, and ponder what He has done. 11 The righteous will be glad in Adonai and take refuge in Him. Let all the upright in heart give glory!

In verse 8, we find the word “suddenly.”  In Hebrew it is “Pit’om” indicating an immediate change.  It is used in Scripture in this way consistently.  For instance, Malachi prophesied over the coming of Yeshua.  Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I am sending My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. Suddenly He will come to His Temple—the Lord whom you seek—and the Messenger of the covenant—the One whom you desire—behold, He is coming,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.  We use the same word in modern Hebrew in the same way.  There is an idiom, “Ma Pit’om,” which means literally, “What, suddenly?” And figuratively, “What possessed you?"

Back in our subject verse, what is the sudden change we are seeing?  What was not there one instant, but is there the next?  Psalm 64:8 But God will shoot them with an arrow—suddenly their wounds will appear.  All of a sudden our enemies will be wounded by arrows shot by God.  The sudden change is when prophecy becomes reality.  

1Thessalonians 5:3 When they are saying, “Shalom and safety,” sudden destruction comes upon them like a woman having birth pains in the womb—there is no way they will escape.

That’s right, suddenly, the future has arrived and become our reality.  Accordingly, everyone will see what God has done and do two things.  First, everyone will respond in fear, and secondly, everyone will “ponder” or meditate on what God has done.  The Hebrew word for “ponder” is “Sachal” (Sin-Kaf-Lamed) meaning to “wisely consider.”  There will be a big difference in the response of people!  Some (the righteous followers of Yeshua) will be glad and rejoice, while others (the unrepentant workers of iniquity) will be stuck and without a way to escape.  

Proverbs 10:28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked perishes. 29 The way of Adonai is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a ruin to those who do evil.   

Today, both the righteous and the wicked appear to be doing just fine. However; (and don’t be a fool about this) sudden destruction is waiting for the workers of iniquity.  Isaiah 30:13 therefore this sin will be to you like a crack bulging in a high wall, about to fall—its collapse comes suddenly, in an instant!  And on that happy note, shalom shalom.
