RR Psalm 64:1-5 Part 1

Shalom,

Psalm 64:1 For the music director, a psalm of David. 2 Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint. Protect my life from terror of the enemy. 3 Hide me from the conspiracy of evildoers, from the tumult of workers of iniquity, 4 who sharpened their tongue like a sword, and aimed their arrow—bitter words, 5 to shoot from hiding at the innocent, shooting suddenly at him, with no fear.

Bible scholars believe that every Psalm “of David” corresponds to a particular time of trouble in his life, and there were many.  This Psalm, however; is different.  Scholars have found no clues that lead to a particular time of David’s trouble.  Some of them have concluded that the Psalm is more prophetic, pointing to the time of Daniel’s trouble.  Daniel was the victim of a carefully crafted plan in which his enemies goaded the king to throw him into the lion’s den.  As we read these words, it is easy to see Daniel’s trouble, as well as David’s.

As with every Scripture, we must ask the question, “How should I respond to what I’m reading?”  After all, the way this is written, we are asking God to, “hear MY voice, protect MY life, and “hide ME.”  We need God to save us from a well prepared and well informed enemy.  That should not come as a surprise.  

Psalm 138:7 Though I walk amid trouble, You revive me. You stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand delivers me.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you will prosper and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Adonai’s servants—their vindication is from Me.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

The workers of iniquity are well equipped for the task.  The evil they “shoot” comes out of them and has the potential to pierce our hearts.  “But God!”  1Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who keeps giving us the victory through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah!  And finally, the enemy is not afraid, but he should be.  We have the “whole armor” of God as protection.  Receive this from Yeshua.  Luke 10:19 “Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”  Shalom shalom.
