RR Psalm 62:4-7 Part 3

Shalom,

Psalm 62:4 How long will all of you assault a man, to crush him, like a leaning wall, a fence to be torn down? 5 They only plot to topple him from his rank. Delighting in falsehood, they bless with their mouth, but inwardly they curse. Selah 6 My soul, wait in stillness, only for God—for from Him comes my expectation. 7 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my strong tower—I will not be moved.

The poet is using his words to “paint a word picture.”  With the phrase, “like a leaning wall, a fence to be torn down,” he is forming an expression.  Once a wall is leaning, it must be torn down.  He is saying, “My enemies will never stop assaulting me, until I am removed.”  Let’s pray that our enemies don’t have the zeal of David’s enemies.  

In verse 5, David professes that his enemies are duplicitous, “they bless with their mouth, but inwardly they curse.”  It is more likely that our enemies are that kind.  The key to victory is to remain close to the Lord (more on verse 6 in a moment).  The Psalm for the Sabbath Day (Psalm 92) presumes that our enemies are also God’s enemies.  

Psalm 92:8 Though the wicked spring up like grass, and all evildoers flourish, it is only to be ruined forever. 9 But You, Adonai, are exalted forever. 10 For behold, Your enemies, Adonai—behold Your enemies perish—all evildoers are scattered.

Now we get to verse 6, which is almost a repeat of verse verse 2, but instead of ending with “salvation” (Yeshuati), verse 6 ends with “expectation” (Tikvati).  That “expectation” is our hope.  1Corinthians 13:13  But now these three remain—faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.  Why does love outlive faith and hope?  When Yeshua returns  everything will be known as fact.  We won’t need to have faith for anything.  The same is true regarding hope… everything we have hoped for will be our reality.  

Ah, love, “the greatest of these is love.”  1Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails—but where there are prophecies, they will pass away; where there are tongues, they will cease; where there is knowledge, it will pass away…. 10 but when that which is perfect has come, then that which is partial will pass away.  

Finally, lets be clear.  The love of which we are speaking is not an emotion, but the act of preferring another above self.  Have you’ve heard hell is hot?  Well, I’m convinced it is just a lonely.  The last thought in these few verses for today is, “God is my salvation.”  There it is, in the Hebrew Scriptures.  Why can’t God be a man, “my Yeshua, Yeshuati?”  After all, He made man from the dust of the earth.  One of the foundational teachings of Judaism is that God cannot have a human body.  I want to know, “Why not?”  Are you going to tell Him that’s impossible?  One, two, three, not me.  Shalom shalom.
