RR Psalm 61:1-5 Part 1
Shalom,
Psalm 61:1 For the music director, on string instrument, of David. 2 Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer. 3 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 4 For You have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength before the enemy. 5 Let me dwell in Your tent forever. Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
Our subject verses today make up the first half of Psalm 61. Verse 2 begins… “Hear my cry.” From the English translation, we are left to wonder, what’s David crying over? The Hebrew word, “Rinati,” meaning “my shout of joy and delight” leaves no doubt. David isn’t crying at all, he is shouting for joy! So then, now we must ask a different question. Why is David expressing a shriek of joy toward the Lord, Elohim?
Let David provide the answer, as he continues to address God, Who has protected him his entire life… “You have been a refuge (and) a tower of strength.” When we choose to follow Yeshua, we have David’s inheritance.
Jeremiah 33:17 For thus says Adonai: “For David, there will not be cut off a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel.”
Great for David, but what about us? Yeshua prophesied this… Revelation 3:21 To the one who overcomes I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I myself overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. No wonder David is shouting for joy. We have every reason to join him in his celebration.
Psalm 31:20 How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You, which You have given to those who take refuge in You, before the children of men…. 22 Blessed be Adonai, for He has shown me His wonderful love in a besieged city.
Shalom shalom.
