Rabbi’s Reflections – Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Shalom *|FNAME|*,

Every day I have the blessing of sitting with God and inquiring with Him.  I ask this question and then wait.  “What do you have for us today, Lord?  The rest is easy.  I’m just writing anything He tells me to write.  Now, because of my responsibilities at our Shomair summer camp, It’s late in the day and I have nothing.

Since June 27, 2017 this has been my privilege.  Today I really have not heard anything yet, and it’s pushing 9pm.  So, I’m left with this scripture…Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything—but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

What follows is the promised result.  Philippians 4:7 And the shalom of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Messiah Yeshua.

The reason “shalom passes understanding” is that our “understanding” tells us to panic.  Panic is not of God.  In fact, it is an emotion named after the false god “Pan.”  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_(god)   Don’t go there.  Stand firm in faith, believing… 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dearly loved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord—because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Week 31
Memory Verse: John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

151   7/27     Monday:       Luke 1

* 152 7/28     Tuesday:      Luke 2
153   7/29     Wednesday: Matthew 1-2

154   7/30     Thursday:     Mark 1

155   7/31     Friday:      John 1

Question of the day:  Matthew 2:23 And he went and lived in a city called Natzeret, to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets, that Yeshua shall be called a Natzrati.  Really, where is it spoken through the prophets that Yeshua shall be called a man from Nazareth?

Answer:  You have to know your Hebrew to answer this one.  A “Netzer” is a “branch.”  Is this starting to sound familiar?  Zechariah 6:12 Then speak to him saying, “Thus says Adonai-Tzva’ot: Behold, a man whose Name is the Branch will branch out from his place and build the Temple of Adonai.

And in another place… Isaiah 11:1 Then a shoot will come forth out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch will bear fruit out of His roots. 2 The Ruach of Adonai will rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and insight, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Adonai.

Give thanks to God, Who fulfills the words of His prophets.  All of them… Matthew 24:34 Amen, I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen.  What things?  Pick up any newspaper and read the headlines.  Those “things.”

Hebrews 9 explains this clearly… Hebrews 9:28 so also Messiah, was offered once to bear the sins of many. He will appear a second time, apart from sin, to those eagerly awaiting Him for salvation.

Make no mistake; the real Yom Kippur is coming soon.  No man knows the day or hour, but don’t lie to yourself and believe that day will never come.  Matthew 24:27 For just as lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so also will be the coming of the Son of Man.

A long awaited day of fulfillment for some, and a day of doom and disaster for others.  Answer the question Joshua asked long ago.  Joshua 24:14 “Now therefore, fear Adonai and worship Him in sincerity and in truth. Get rid of the gods that your fathers had worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and worship Adonai. 15 If it seems bad to you to worship Adonai, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve—whether the gods that your fathers worshipped that were beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will worship Adonai!”
