Rabbi’s Reflections – Monday, July 2, 2018
This is me taking Sunday off. If that’s not spiritual enough for you, there is always Psalm 24 (which is always the Psalm for Sunday in Hebrew liturgy).
Psalm 24 has a preeminent position during the high holidays (first two of three fall Feasts of the Lord). When you read Psalm 24 you’ll see the glory of the entering in of the Lord. This is part of the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashanah is the head of the year). Psalm 24 is the Psalm of Sunday because Sunday is the head of the week.

Question of the day: Back to the question, “Who is He?”
Answer: Clearly the most well known verse in the reading for today is Zechariah 12:10 “Then I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication, when they will look toward Me whom they pierced. They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son and grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for a firstborn.”
So maybe the better question would be, “Who is ME?” The most famous piercing in world history is Yeshua being nailed to the cross. Usually I’m light hearted when I write these reflections, but writing the words “nailed to the cross” hit me like a ton of bricks. This is not just some 4 words, but symbolic of the suffering of our Lord both on our account and for our benefit.
Both Psalm 2 and Psalm 22 are exceedingly Messianic and full of revelation. Let’s close the RR for today by reading both of them. Shalom.
