Rabbi’s Reflections – Tuesday, August 23, 2022
Shalom,
The Upper Room Discourse (part 16 of ???)
John 14:19 In a little while, the world will no longer behold Me, but you will behold Me. Because I live, you also will live!
Yeshua is continuing His prophetic utterance. And so it happened, exactly as He said. It was only 2 days after He spoke these words that He was crucified, and the world could no longer behold Him. What follows is the prophetic phrase that changed the world, “But you will behold Me.” Yes, when we see the Son, our life is never the same as it once was.
To be clear, Yeshua is always there. Revelation 3:20a Behold, I stand at the door and knock. Then, by a sovereign and miraculous work of God, our eyes are opened to see Him. The Apostles had asked Yeshua at the end of the story of the rich young ruler the question, Mark 10:26b “Then who can be saved?”
Yeshua answers them (and us)… Mark 10:27 Looking at them Yeshua said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God!” God removes the scales from blind eyes. We are all blind in the dark. Light makes it possible to see. Isaiah 42:6 “I, Adonai, called You in righteousness, I will take hold of Your hand, I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations, 7a by opening blind eyes.”
Rabbi Trail: When it comes to Messianic prophesies, the book of Isaiah is tops. Everyone loves the Messianic prophesies of Isaiah 53. However; I would like to direct your attention to Isaiah 42. In it we find exceptional prophesies that are only answered in the life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection of Yeshua HaMashiach. The rabbis believe Isaiah is speaking of King Hezekiah, but that doesn’t fit. Hez was never a light to the nations. End RT.
The last part of our subject verse tells us why Yeshua is resurrected. John 14:19b “Because I live, you also will live!.” Earlier in this chapter, Thomas had asked a question. John 14:5 Thomas said to Him, “Master, we don’t know where You are going. How can we know the way?” Yeshua was resurrected so that we could follow Him in resurrection.
1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah! In His great mercy He caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Messiah Yeshua from the dead.
Welcome to new life, born again life, in Messiah Yeshua. 1 Corinthians 15:19 If we have hoped in Messiah in this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all people. 20 But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
