Rabbi’s Reflections – Thursday, August 18, 2022
Shalom,

The Upper Room Discourse (part 13 of ???)

John 14:12 “Amen, amen I tell you, he who puts his trust in Me, the works that I do he will do; and greater than these he will do, because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.”

Step one: Put your trust in Yeshua.  Got it?  Get it?  Good!  Oh, if it were only that easy.  To trust in Yeshua requires faith.  Matthew 17:20b “Amen, I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Have you ever heard of a false doctrine that involves faith?  It masquerades as a true doctrine called “Word of Faith.”  Like everything fake, it can be a challenge to distinguish between the real and the imposter.  The difference is that true overcoming, life changing faith is in Yeshua and the imposter is faith in anything else.  Yeshua isn’t just calling us to trust, He is calling us to trust IN HIM

Here is a word of warning….  Don’t let the false “Word of Faith” doctrine rob you of the reality.  Yeshua clearly says, “Whatever you ask in My name….”  To ask in His name, means to ask by His authority, and His authority is never self-centered.  To ask for self-centered purposes is to actually use the name of the Lord in vain.

Yeshua goes on to explain… John 14:13b “…so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”  We already agreed that faith is a challenging concept for us, now we’re adding another challenging concept, glory.  What is glory?  No one ever went into the store and buy a pound of glory.  Glory is explained in the “Shema” (Deuteronomy 6:4).  God’s Glory is His oneness.  We studied it yesterday.  Yeshua said it directly, John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.”

Yeshua came to earth so that we could do what was impossible before, even to Moses.  Because Yeshua came, we can now look upon and see the glory of God.  John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth. The name Reuben (name of the firstborn son of Jacob) means, “Behold the son.”  It’s the first step of everyone who follows Yeshua.

Let’s close this out today by playing a game of “Rabbi Says.”  Better than that, let’s not play a game, let’s not play, let’s live, and let’s live a reality.  God says, John 14:14 “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” May our faith in Yeshua be real.  Better than that, let’s have the faith OF Yeshua.  Let’s ask in agreement with Yeshua’s authority (after all, He has all authority), and bring a testimony of the greatness of God into His house.  May His name be exalted.  Amen.
