Shalom,
Psalms
Psalm 13:6(5,6) – Part 4
Psalm 13:6 But I trust in Your lovingkindness, my heart rejoices in Your salvation. I will sing to Adonai, because He has been good to me.
We are going to end our meditation of Psalm 13 today and tomorrow, but first, let me clarify how the verses are numbered. The TLV (Tree of Life Version) combines the last two verses of Psalm 13 (verses 5 & 6 in the KJV) into one verse (only verse 6). This leaves both versions with 6 verses, because the TLV takes what is verse 1 in the KJV and breaks it into verses 1 and 2.
That’s more than enough on the mechanics of Psalm 13, what about the spiritual implications? My amplified translation of the first part of verse 6 is…“But, as for me, I have trusted in your love (Chesed).” How do we measure God’s love for us? John 15:13 No one has greater love than this: that he lay down his life for his friends. This is not a stand alone verse, rather it is a couplet with the following verse. Yeshua tell us how we are to be considered among His friends. John 15:14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.
We must place ourselves under His loving command. That is the definition of submission. Yeshua, Himself, was submitted. With only moments left on this earth, Yeshua prayed in the garden… Luke 22:41 And He pulled back about a stone’s throw from them, got on His knees, and began to pray, 42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.” By this, He is able to demand the same obedience from us.
Next, let’s consider, “My heart rejoices in Your salvation.” The word for salvation is one we all know well, “Yeshua.” This brings a question to mind. How can the non-Yeshua-following Jewish community pray this Psalm and obey it (without Yeshua)? The short answer is, “It is not possible.” So we must believe in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel… Romans 11:26a and in this way all Israel will be saved.
Which, we believe, will lead to the fulfillment of God’s greater promise…Philippians 2:9 For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue profess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord—to the glory of God the Father. That’s right, the salvation of Israel will lead us to world wide revival. Shalom shalom.
