(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

One In Messiah part 16 – Romans, part 127

Romans 9:29 And just as Isaiah foretold, “Unless Adonai-Tzva’ot had left us seed, we would have become like Sodom and resembled Gomorrah.”

Again, Paul references Isaiah… Isaiah 1:9 Unless Adonai-Tzva’ot had left us a small remnant, we would have been as Sodom, we would have been as Gomorrah.  That “small remnant” of Isaiah is accurately translated as “survivor.”  That “survivor” of Isaiah is the same person as the “seed” of Paul.  Significantly, He is not a “what,” but a “Who.”  When we give Him a name, this all makes so much more sense.

His name is Yeshua (meaning Salvation).  He alone is the Savior Who saves us from becoming like Sodom and Gomorrah.  Joseph heard this from the angel of the Lord… Matthew 1:21 “She (Mary) will give birth to a son; and you shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins.”

The Lord was giving this message to Joseph so that he would be settled in his heart about the virgin birth.  The virgin birth was first prophesied by the Lord as He passed judgment over Satan immediately after the fall.  Genesis 3:15 I will put animosity between you and the woman—between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel.”

But wait!  Women don’t have seed.  The Greek word for “seed” is “Sperma.”  It corresponds to the Hebrew word “Zarah.”  The Lord speaks of “her seed” in anticipation of the virgin birth.  Without Yeshua, where would we be?  We would be like Sodom and Gomorrah.  Would you like an encouraging word to close out the week?  Here you go.

Isaiah 9:5 For to us a child is born, a son will be given to us, and the government will be upon His shoulder. His Name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God My Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. 6 Of the increase of His government and shalom there will be no end—on the throne of David and over His kingdom—to establish it and uphold it through justice and righteousness from now until forevermore. The zeal of Adonai-Tzva’ot will accomplish this.

Shabbat Shalom.
