One In Messiah part 12 – Romans, part 123

Romans 9:20 But who in the world are you, O man, who talks back to God? Will what is formed say to the one who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?” 21 Does the potter have no right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honor and another for common use?

One of my favorite lines in all of movie making history is by Dennis the Menace (in the movie, by the same name, 1993).  He says, “Hey mister, you’re doing it wrong.”  Paul is asking if we want to be held accountable for telling God He that is “doing it wrong.”

Rabbi Trail: The statistics are alarming.  About 5% of young adults are prepared to tell God He made a mistake in assigning their gender.  About half of this number can’t make up their mind (non-binary), so that they never want to live with an assigned gender.  It would be laughable if it weren’t so seriously wrong.  End RT.

Don’t “talk back” to God.  Some questions are okay to ask God, and some are not.  For instance, when God tells us to obey His commandments, we should never ask, “Why should I?”  When we receive Him as Lord, we are inviting Him to reign in our hearts.  He begins a process to make us new in His image.  Everything in His kingdom points to being one with Him.

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue. 4 Through these things He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, since you have escaped the corruption that evil desires have brought into the world.

God’s desire is for us to be thankful for all He has done for us.  1 Thessalonians 5:18  in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Messiah Yeshua.  To recap, we don’t doubt God, we have faith in God.  Faith that… Romans 8:28b all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.

Paul didn’t invent this from nothing… Isaiah 64:7(8)  But now, Adonai, You are our Father. We are the clay and You are our potter, We are all the work of Your hand.  May we all respond to the Potter’s touch as he moulds us into His own divine image.

Colossians 3:10 and have put on the new self that is being renewed in knowledge, according to the image of the One who created him. Here there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, savage, slave and free; but Messiah is all, and in all.  Shalom shalom.

I try not to be political while writing the RR.  This daily devotional is biblically based.  Consistent with that thought, my support for the State of Israel is not a political issue, but a biblical one.  I am a proud zionist.  https://www.history.com/topics/middle-east/zionism

The idea that the territory west of the Jordan river which was acquired during the six day war (and is properly known as Judea and Samaria, aka the “West Bank”) should be called “the occupied territory” is prima facie absurd.  By any equal application of that standard, the entire world is “occupied territory.”

You pick… the United States, all “occupied territory.”  Any country in Europe, Asia, North or South America or Africa was not originally the land belonging to the current governments.  Even Australia did not start out Australian.  There may be a few exceptions, but I can’t think of any off-hand.

With that in mind, I want to offer correction to the popular world-wide abuse of the Israeli government for defending the citizens of Israel last week.  Namely, the effort by the Israeli military to root out terrorists from Jenin.  The so called “refugee camp,” is in reality a city of 14,000.  Similarly, Israeli cities of over 50,000 are called “settlements.”

Watch this short video to get the Israeli perspective on this necessary military action.  https://unitedwithisrael.org/watch-why-did-the-idf-raid-jenin/
