Biblical Perspective of Current News (June 1 – June 14, 2022)

INTRODUCTION: In this RR, I discuss a few news articles I read this month. These articles may interest you. The articles report events and situations that prepare to fulfill end-time prophecies. By reading both newspapers and the Holy Bible, one conclusion is inevitable– Yeshua is returning suddenly, without warning… and probably soon (Matthew 24:42; Luke 12:40; Acts 1:11, 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, 5:1-3; 2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 3:3, 3:11, 16:15, 22:12, 22:20; etc). I report only a few articles from the first half of June. Thousands of pertinent articles cannot be included (space). Click on the underlined URL link to read the entire article. ● SUMMARY: Crazy-high statistics seem to accompany everything today. The latest tragic statistics involve the fentanyl overdoses among young adults and adolescents. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin or 100 times stronger than morphine. Record numbers of Americans die from this synthetic opioid (estimated 105,752 overdoses in the 12-month period ending October, 2021). Drugs kill more young people than guns. Drugs are the leading cause of death in Americans between 18 and 45 years of age. People order and pay for fentanyl online, and have the deadly drug delivered to their doors.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, it may be too late for us to do much, but understand the negative impact of the Internet (social media). In my opinion (which is being supported by a growing body of scientific studies), social media harm physical, societal, and emotional well-being. I believe social media has a net negative (harmful) impact on us. Many people are mesmerized by their little hand-held screens, as they peck furiously at an attached keyboard. Parents need to be aware of fentanyl dangers and the easy method of purchasing this deadly drug, and try to stop their children/ grandchildren from buying this drug. Fentanyl, primarily manufactured in Mexico from materials shipped from China, is transported by criminal cartels from Mexico across our wide open southern border. The amount of fentanyl flowing into America is staggering. The Bible clearly warns of end-time dangers of “sorceries” (Revelation 9:21 and 18:23). “Sorceries?” Witchcraft? Magic? No. “Sorceries” clumsily translates φαρμακειῶν (transliterated, pharmakeiōn). You recognize the pharm- root of this word. It relates to “drugs” (pharmacy, pharmaceutical, etc.), not “sorceries” (magic, witchcraft, etc.). The Apostle John recorded that people in the last days will willfully, unrepentantly abuse drugs. By the way, beverage alcohol fulfills all of the pharmacological definitions of a drug.

● SUMMARY: Anne Graham Lotz, Billy Graham’s daughter, recently wrote, “Our beloved nation is melting down. The jettisoning of traditional Judeo-Christian values has seemed to erupt at warp speed. Lying, corruption, deception, betrayal, and greed are becoming the norm. Fear, rage, lawlessness, murder, suicides, and drug and alcohol abuse seem out of control. The signs the Bible gives which characterize the last generation of human history are warning indicators. Could it be our world is coming under God’s final judgment? If so, then the time before Jesus returns for His followers is running out.” Daymond Duck discusses seven features of the present time, as they relate to the end.
● SIGNIFICANCE: In the conclusion of this RR, I discuss two prophetic features of the present time– acceleration and convergence. The Four Horsemen (Revelation, chapter 6) may be mounted and ready to ride at this moment to wreak havoc throughout the world. Are you ready? ● SUMMARY: New York City (NYC) has spent more than $200,000 since 2018 hiring drag queens to read to public school students. The drag programs at NYC public schools often took place without parental consent. The Department of Education characterized the programs as promoting inclusivity and preventing violence against transgender people.
● SIGNIFICANCE: This is happening throughout America. Are small children being indoctrinated to accept and adopt homosexual and transgender lifestyles? The prophet summed it well (Isaiah 5:20-21): Oy to those who call evil good and good evil, who present darkness as light and light as darkness, who present bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter! Oy to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight! Personal note: My children are grown. When they were young, they received a good education in public schools (Maryville school system). If they were young at this time, my wife and I would home school them. We were blessed (fortunate enough) to have this option. Linda was a stay-at-home mom and I earned enough to support our family). Our children are our most precious gifts, and we would now keep them out of public schools, which have become indoctrination, thought-control, gender-confusing centers, as well as drug distribution markets and sex partner hookups. (The foregoing statement is generalized for the nation’s schools. I do not know if our local [Maryville] schools are involved in such deterioration.) ● SUMMARY: Russian forces are targeting Ukraine’s wheat fields with banned incendiary bombs, as Putin seeks to starve the country. Ukraine, “the breadbasket of Europe,” faces mass food shortages and a Russian naval blockade prevents it from being able to export agricultural goods. Russia is using incendiary bombs, whose flammable component, thermite, burns at 2,200⁰ C (3,992⁰ F), causing a fire that is difficult to extinguish.
● SIGNIFICANCE: The Bible prophesies last-days starvation. Such privation will be the result of poverty, inhumane treatment of fellow man, war, disease, economic collapse, drought, pandemics, and so forth. We presently are seeing beginning catastrophes, which will result in mass hunger. Even before the Tribulation (in 2022), we have millions of hungry and underfed world residents. ● SUMMARY: U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met recently with his Chinese counterpart, who said China was prepared to “go to war” in order to keep Taiwan from becoming independent. Austin and China’s Minister of National Defense General Wei Fenghe met for the first time face-to-face amid the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. “If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will definitely not hesitate to start a war, no matter the cost,” the Chinese defense secretary stated. Austin shared his concerns about China’s recent behavior and military activity around the self-governing island. Austin noted a “steady increase in provocative and destabilizing military activity near Taiwan,” including almost daily military flights near the island by the People’s Republic of China.
● SIGNIFICANCE: What a quandary! China has stated repeatedly that Taiwan is part of China. Taiwan desires and maintains independence from China. The United States has no mutual defense treaty with Taiwan, even though gaffe-prone President Biden seems to think so. Since adoption of the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, the United States has recognized Taiwan as part of China. “Strategic ambiguity” in the treaty and policy have governed U.S.-Taiwanese policy– Washington will not support Taiwan’s independence as long as China refrains from seizing it by force. Taiwan’s economy is vitally important to America’s economy (semiconductors, for example). China is building its forces in the South China Sea. China and Russia are strengthening ties. America faces extremely powerful foes (China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran) – foes who hate America and wish to destroy our nation. Both Russia and China publicly threaten the United States with nuclear war. Do they sense profound weakness in America, a weakness that eludes most media commentators? Did America’s hasty capitulation in Afghanistan cement their views of America’s weakness? What if all foes attack us at once? Hitler lost World War II because he fought a two-front war. How would America fare with a four-front war? Do you feel secure that the Biden-Harris administration is capable of meeting war-time challenges from such powerful enemies? In The Revelation, a most powerful enemy emerges during the Tribulation as the 200-million man armed forces of the Kings of the East (Revelation 9:15-16, 16:12-14, 19:15-21). These “kings” undoubtedly include China, North Korea, and others from the Far East. Live life to its fullest today, because tomorrow may be horrendous. Nuclear war is now more likely than at any time since the end of Cold War, according to a chilling new report. Russia, the United States, China, Great Britain, France, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea are the world’s nine nuclear powers (and, Iran can soon be the tenth nuclear power). Especially troublesome threats include Russia’s (Putin’s) invasion of Ukraine and Xi Xinping’s (China’s) ambition to take Taiwan. Both Russia’s and China’s leaders have publicly threatened to involve the United States with nuclear war. Bible prophecy clearly warns of sudden, total destruction of major population centers, which surely represents nuclear war.

● SUMMARY: The Portland, Maine City Council voted to add 4.8 percent to property taxes to provide funds to permit illegal aliens to live free in city housing.
● SIGNIFICANCE: I have no comment to add. You surely have your own thoughts on this tax increase and how it fits into the direction America is headed.

● SUMMARY: In 2021, the White House assured the nation that the inflation surge was temporary. Now, amid 40-year highs for basic goods, President Biden insists Americans can handle the burden to their budgets “because of the enormous progress we’ve made in the economy.” Art Laffer, the Reagan economic boom’s architect, analyzes the hard data on the American economy.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Grinding economic collapse (poverty) will characterize the Tribulation. Early in the Tribulation will occur God’s Third Seal Judgment, the rider on the black horse (Revelation 6:5-6): When the Lamb [Yeshua] opened the third seal, I [John] heard the third living creature saying, “Come!” And behold, I saw a black horse. The one riding on it held a balance scale in his hand. Then I heard something like a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius– but do no harm to the oil and wine!” Convert first-century living conditions to those of the twenty-first century. Poverty will be so cruel that a future workman will toil all day for his “denarius.” The denarius was a Roman silver coin in use in the Empire before and after the first century. A laborer’s daily wage was one denarius. This “denarius” (daily wage) will purchase one quart of wheat (think, a one-pound loaf of bread). The laborer can barely subsist on this meager ration, much less support his family’s needs for food, housing, clothing, and the like. Note that the rich will not be affected by the poor economy (“but do no harm to the oil and wine,” which are luxury items that can be afforded by the rich, but not by the poor). Deep, painful privation will be just one of the many hard things that must be endured during the Tribulation.

● SUMMARY: The nuclear destruction of Damascus, Syria is prophesied in Isaiah, chapter 17.
● SIGNIFICANCE: I believe there is a prophetic connection between the nuclear destruction of Damascus, the War of Gog and Magog, and the rise of the Antichrist (the beginning of the Tribulation). ● SUMMARY: In face of Iran’s continued development of a nuclear capability, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) has developed a new capability to be able to fly its F-35 stealth fighter jets from Israel to the Islamic Republic (Iran), without requiring mid-air refueling. This development is a boost to IAF’s capabilities and comes as the Israeli military has upped its preparations for a future strike against Iran’s nuclear developments.
● SIGNIFICANCE: This report is another report setting the stage for a future conflict between Israel and Iran (“Persia”) in the War of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39). Both Iran and Syria are allied with Russia (“Magog”). Something big will likely happen between Israel and Iran or Syria, causing “hooks to be placed in the jaws of Gog” [Gog = leader of Magog, or Russia] and cause him to invade Israel, along with his Islamic confederates. (See Ezekiel 38:4.) Several Biblical scenarios are possible, which could cause Gog to turn toward and invade Israel. This war will have catastrophic consequences for the entire world, and will truly be the beginning of the end.

● SUMMARY: Explosions were heard Monday night over the city of Damascus, where Israel reportedly fired missiles from the Golan Heights toward targets south of the Syrian capital.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Many Bible prophecy students believe that Damascus’ future destruction (Isaiah, chapter 17) may be the catalyst for the War of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39). Russia, Iran (“Persia”), Turkey, and other nations will come together primarily from the north, with weaponry supplied by Russia, to attack Israel. Israel would seem to face certain annihilation, as all nations desert her, except that the Holy One of Israel (Adonai) will rescue His beloved people. I believe this war may be the reason the Antichrist may rise on the world stage, with his “peace plan.” I believe the plan will include sharing the Temple Mount with Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The Third Jewish Temple construction can, then, begin. We really may be only one night-time missile strike against Damascus to set the last days’ plan in motion. I have difficulty understanding this: Russia has suffered great military losses in Ukraine. How long will it take Russia to recover to feel an attack of Israel is feasible?

● SUMMARY: A new poll from the nonpartisan polling firm Gallup finds that most Americans (52 percent) believe that legal abortion is “morally acceptable” for the first time since 1973, even though an overwhelming majority oppose abortions in the third trimester of pregnancy and most oppose abortion in the second trimester. This year’s polling results come as the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Faith is being watered down. Increasing numbers of Believers actually stand for nothing, as Yeshua sadly prophesied (Luke 18:8b): “… But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” It seems evident that Americans have been repeatedly indoctrinated that abortion must be accepted, and many have accepted this idea that an unborn baby’s life is worthless. These Americans do not honor God’s Word in this matter, by agreeing that abortion is acceptable, rather than trying to rescue those being slaughtered in the abortion clinics (Proverbs 24:11-12): Rescue those being dragged off to death, hold back those stumbling to slaughter. If you say, “Look, we didn’t know this.” Won’t He who weighs hearts perceive it? Won’t He who guards your soul know it? Won’t He repay each one according to his deeds? Condoning another person’s sin is the same as committing that sin (see: What Does the Bible Say About Condoning A Persons Sin? (openbible.info) ). Consider Jacob (James) 4:17: Therefore whoever knows the right thing to do and does not do it– for him it is sin. Guard against agreeing that another person’s sin is acceptable.

● SUMMARY: Israel is largely to blame for its conflict with the Palestinians, the United Nations charged in the initial report by its highly contentious Commission of Inquiry, which plans to focus in part on issues of discrimination by the Jewish state both within and without the country’s sovereign borders.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Two of my opinions are: (1) the United Nations will almost always side with Islamic nations and against Israel; and (2) the United Nations is the precursor of the godless global government, which will some day be headed by the Antichrist. Understand that the United Nations, in its zeal to embarrass or punish Israel, has ignored the multiple instances of Israel being attacked by Islamic nations since Israeli statehood in the mid-1940s. ►TITLE (DATE): Democrat Senator Says Gas Prices Don’t ‘Matter’ to Her as Millions Impacted by Record-High Prices (June 7, 2022)

● SUMMARY: Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) said that gas prices “didn’t matter” to her because she drives an electric vehicle, while millions of Americans feel the financial burden of record-high gas prices. “On the issue of gas prices, after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and drove it from Michigan to here [Washington, D.C.] this last weekend and went by every single gas station and it didn’t matter how high [gasoline price] it was,” Stabenow said. Although the 25-year D.C. veteran has “enough chips in this country to finally” get an electric vehicle, a $56,437 electric vehicle does not make financial sense for the typical Michigan resident, where the average household income is $59,234.
● SIGNIFICANCE: This statement is so out of touch with propriety and the needs of the country, that I will not comment further. It is reminiscent of a phrase circulated before the French Revolution and wrongly attributed to Marie Antoinette, who met the guillotine in 1793 for her extravagant lifestyle, when told the peasants could not afford bread: “S’ils n’ont plus de pain, qu’ils mangent de la brioche!” (Short translation: “Let them eat brioche;” more common translation, “Let them eat cake.”) In my opinion, many Washington D.C. lawmakers are completely out of touch with common Americans. One of America’s greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, connected with the common man, saying: “God must love the common man. He made so many of them.”

● SUMMARY: Not only has Iran failed to reduce concerns about its violations of the nuclear nonproliferation safeguards agreement, it also will eventually cross the uranium enrichment threshold, International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Grossi said Monday.
● SIGNIFICANCE: We are approaching the Tribulation, which Yeshua warned would be marked by “wars and rumors of wars.” Multiple Scriptures warn of a “great sword” and massive destruction of cities during this time. Iran is called by its ancient name– Persia– in Scriptures. Iran is allied with Russia, or Magog (see War of Gog and Magog, Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39), and hates Israel and the United States. If Iran does not yet have a nuclear weapon, it soon will have one. Iran’s Islamic leaders do not fear death for themselves or the Iranian populace, because to die as a Shaheed in the cause of Allah is a certain way to enter Paradise. [Shaheed = a martyr who dies in jihad, or holy war.]

● SUMMARY: Representative Steve Scalise, R-LA., blasted Democrats for “wanting to take away guns” in response to mass shootings like the one in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 fourth-graders and two teachers. Scalise said red-flag laws in 19 states are unconstitutional. “When you have a shooting, instead of sitting down and asking, ‘OK, what is really causing this, why do we see these happening more and more in the last few years,’ it immediately becomes a debate about taking away guns.”
● SIGNIFICANCE: Violence in America, including gun violence, should alarm all of us. Not only are multiple deaths recorded in “soft targets,” say, schools, but also in major cities, such as, Chicago. We seem helpless to keep mentally disturbed people from gaining access to guns, but is gun confiscation the answer? We base gun ownership on the ambiguously written Second Amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Gun ownership opponents use spurious arguments to justify taking guns from citizens, such as, “No one needs an ‘assault rifle’ to go hunting” (even though Biden’s nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives [ATF], David Chipman, could not define “assault rifle” at his confirmation hearing last year); or, Biden’s false assertion: “A 9 mm handgun will blow a lung out of the chest.” Before retirement, I performed numerous forensic autopsies. A 9 mm handgun absolutely cannot “blow a lung out of the chest.” History notes that tyrannical governments have frequently confiscated guns from citizens to prevent any resistance of the people to governmental control. I suspect the Second Amendment phrase, “… being necessary to the security of a free State,…” was inserted as a safeguard for the people to oppose easy domination by a tyrannical government. America’s founding leaders, fresh from the revolution against the British Crown, understood that a tyrannical government may need to be met with force of an armed populace at some future date. Such attitude caused Thomas Jefferson to write, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.” An entire RR could be written on Yeshua’s attitude toward self defense, but I will resist the temptation. ● COMMENT: More than 393-million guns are owned by American civilians, the equivalent of 120 firearms per 100 citizens. The average gun-owning American possesses 5 firearms. I am not an attorney, and confiscation of private firearms by the federal government would be debated by the best legal minds and carried all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Certain Constitutional protections may apply, however, unless we have a rogue government. The Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment reads: “Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” The Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment reads: “No person shall… be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;….” The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment mimics the Fifth Amendment and reads: “… nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;….” What would be the cost of “just compensation” for millions of confiscated firearms? What would constitute “due process” of such confiscation? Would law-abiding citizens surrender weapons, while criminals refuse to comply? How would the government keep track of gun owners who surrender their weapons and those who refuse– hundreds of millions of transactions? Who would take a government job that required him/ her to knock on doors and announce: “Good morning, sir. I’m from the federal government, and I’m here to collect your guns?” I mention out of interest a supposed quote of Japan’s Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto immediately after the Pearl Harbor attack (December, 1941): “[We] cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.” This widely disseminated quote in defense of citizen gun ownership apparently cannot be found in print and is claimed by many to be spurious.

● SUMMARY: Russian political scientist Sergey Mikheyev used Russia’s state-controlled TV to send a nuclear warning to the West. Speaking on Russia’s Channel 1, he threatened that the weapons that keep reaching Ukraine will see the war in Ukraine escalate into WW3. “The nuclear war is coming”, he added after warning “[the West] don’t understand what happens next.”
● SIGNIFICANCE: So many “wars and rumors of wars” articles occur daily, that I can print only a very few of them. Any topic this serious that makes it to state-controlled Russian television must be taken seriously, as it represent Putin’s thinking. Enjoy life, family, and friends now. ● SUMMARY: Russian spokespersons continue to threaten the West, especially the United States, with nuclear destruction. Even though the Russian military has been embarrassingly inept in Ukraine, Russia possesses many nuclear weapons. The United States can be attacked by air (missiles) or by sea (submarines), unexpectedly, suddenly, devastatingly.
● SIGNIFICANCE: Yeshua warned of end-time “wars and rumors of wars.” The Revelation outlines the Tribulation, a time when worldwide wars– including nuclear war– will be featured. The West, including America, has powerful enemies, including China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. Keep watch, for you do not know if today is your last day (Mark 13:33): [Yeshua said] “Keep on the lookout! Stay alert! For you do not know when the time is.” When you meet Yeshua in Paradise, make that meeting joyful because you have led a meaningful life for God, not a meeting of dread because you have done so little.
SUMMARY: I have read numerous news articles this month that should be included in this month’s RR, but I do not have space to include them. I have mentioned before two features of the last days, which are coming to pass now– acceleration(end-time prophecy fulfillment precursors are happening faster than anyone can follow) and convergence (all these events are converging toward a single future event of Yeshua’s return). We are told that these things are warnings for us to not be caught unaware (Luke 21:28): [Yeshua said] “Now when these things begin to happen, stand straight and lift up your heads, because your salvation is near!” As John prayed (Revelation 22:20b): … Amen!
