Rabbi’s Reflections – Friday, June 25, 2021

(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

A N N O U N C E M E N T

This is a friendly reminder that Jada Baker’s Bat Mitzvah is this Saturday.  She has prepared herself well for this important lifetime event.  All are invited to come and celebrate with her and her family.  End announcement.

________

We continue our series on the Red Heifer.  It’s a very curious phrase, “in his presence.”  The question today is “Why is the Red Heifer slaughtered in Eleazer’s presence?”  The question comes from Numbers 19:3 Give her (the Red Heifer) to Eleazar the kohen. He will take her outside the camp and slaughter her in his presence.

Rabbi’s note: Remember, I didn’t like the TLV translation on this.  A better understanding would be “and she shall be slaughtered in his presence.”  It just doesn’t make any sense the way it is written in the TLV.  Of course if Eleazar slaughtered the Red Heifer, there would be no need to say “in his presence” because “of course” he would be there.  End RN.

Eleazar, whose name means “God is my helper,” is taking on the role of Yeshua (aren’t we all from time to time – as ambassadors?).  Of course Yeshua (Eleazar) would be present as His Bride (the Red Heifer) is consecrated (sacrificed) into service for purification from sin.

So there, you now have the answer to the question for today.

Num 23:27-24:13 Ez 6-7 Neh 5 (Lk 12:1-34) Gal 4

It got late and my day got full.  I didn’t get anything written for the Daily Bread section nor for the F-260.  The RRs for Saturday and Sunday are in the hands of David Harwood and Dr. Raymond Finney respectively (although I edit and publish their writing), so Shabbat Shalom until I write again on Sunday for Monday.
