One In Messiah part 1 – Romans, part 112

Romans 9:1 I tell the truth in Messiah—I do not lie, my conscience assuring me in the Ruach ha-Kodesh— 2  that my sorrow is great and the anguish in my heart unending. 3  For I would pray that I myself were cursed, banished from Messiah for the sake of my people—my own flesh and blood.

Paul has just finished a great call (3 chapters long) to live in victory without sin.  Romans 6:2b How can we who died to sin still live in it?  His next first thought (and all of the next 3 chapters) is for the salvation of Jewish people.  Paul knows this is the necessary next step for worldwide revival and Yeshua’s return.  Romans 11:15b what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

He even says here that he would give up his own salvation for the salvation of Jewish people.  Can we honestly say the same?  Thank God we don’t have to.  Yeshua made the once for all time sacrifice.  Hebrews 10:14  For by one offering He has perfected forever those being made holy.  (Notice this was written to Hebrews.)  However; even though we don’t have to make that trade (our own salvation for the salvation of all Israel), we should still capture Paul’s heart on this.  The salvation of Jewish people is a priority that should be part of our daily prayers and daily activity.

Rabbi Trail: Please note that I said “Jewish people” and not “the Jewish people.”  Jewish people have names.  “The” Jewish people don’t, they’re just a group.  We must win Jewish people one at a time, intentionally, as the Lord leads.  End RT.

There is a hidden heresy especially among many Christian Zionists called dual-covenant.  https://onecanhappen.com/2016/12/07/heresy-john-hagee-and-dual-covenant-theology-telling-the-jews-they-dont-need-jesus-everyone-else-whether-buddhist-or-bahai-needs-to-believe-in-jesus/

Rabbi Trail:  There are several different heresies operating under this same name.  The link above will take you to an article that explains what I mean by “dual-covenant.”  Christian Zionists like it because with this view (that Jewish people don’t need Yeshua to be saved), they can be friendly with their non-believing Jewish friends without confronting them with the truth about Yeshua.  End RT.

In the process of ignoring the importance and value of salvation (and thus, the Savior Himself), these Christian Zionists kick their believing Jewish brothers and sisters (Messianic Jews) to the curb (in agreement with their non-believing Jewish friends).  In lying to their Jewish friends about the importance of the Jewish Messiah, while preaching heresy, these well-meaning men and women are being used by Satan.

Matthew 10:28  And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

The family of God is inclusive.  God’s desire is that His family would be made up of Jewish people and people from every nations.  He loves that about His family.  We have a calling to love what God loves.  Let’s make Jewish evangelism a priority.  Like everything, it starts with prayer.

In our subject verses, Paul is expressing his deep sorrow over the issue of Jewish salvation.  He opened his heart to share in his letter to the Romans, his intimate prayer life.  In doing so, Paul is drawing us to join him in grieving for lost Jewish people.  Sadly, most of church history is not on the right side of this issue.  Something should change.  Let me close today by saying again, it starts with prayer. Shalom shalom.
