(Early) Shabbat Shalom,
The Psalms
An Introduction, Psalms 1 and 2
Part 9, Psalm 2:2
Psalm 2:1 begins with “Why are the nations in an uproar.” The next few verses describe how this is happening.
Psalm 2:2 The kings of earth set themselves up and rulers conspire together against Adonai and against His Anointed One. This is the first mention of “His Anointed One” in the Psalms.
The anointed of the Lord are kings, priests, and prophets. Yeshua HaMashiach (The Anointed Savior) is the only one who is all three in one.
A king is the undisputed authority of government. Isaiah 9:5b and the government will be upon His shoulder. Then at his trial in Jerusalem… John 18:37 So Pilate said to Him, “Are you a king, then?” Yeshua answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I was born, and for this reason I came into the world, so that I might testify to the truth.
A priest is an intermediary for the people. Hebrews 7:17 For it is testified, “You are a kohen (priest) forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” 1John 2:2 He is the atonement for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
A prophet provides for the revelation of God’s will. Matthew 21:11 And the crowds kept saying, “This is the prophet Yeshua, from Natzeret in the Galilee.” And then, on the road to Emmaus… Luke 24:19 Yeshua said to them, “What kind of things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Yeshua from Natzeret, who was a Prophet, powerful in deed and word before God and all the people. Finally, John 5:30 “I can do nothing on My own. … for I do not seek My own will, but the will of the One who sent Me.”
All authority is concentrated in the offices of kings, priests, and prophets. Therefore; it is the basis of the great commission… Matthew 28:18 And Yeshua came up to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19a Go therefore and make disciples.
Naturally, those in authority (other kings, priests and prophets) are resistant to Yeshua’s supreme authority. We’ll see in the next verse Psalm 2 verse 3 how these rulers conspire to remove imaginary chains and ropes. They long for freedom, when the only true freedom is found in following Yeshua. John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed! Shalom shalom.
