Shavuah Tov,

Psalms
Psalm 25:13 – Part 17

Psalm 25:13 His soul abides in goodness, and his offspring will inherit the land.

This verse describes the person who (according to the previous verse) fears Adonai and receives valuable instruction about life’s choices.  Who among us has had this conversation with God?  “Lord, I’ve made a mess of my life.  Many of the choices I’ve made have lead me down paths that have been hurtful to myself and others.  Open my ears to hear and my heart to receive Your ways.  Make me Your ambassador, a reflection of Your character, so that I can trust and obey Your commands.  I am Your servant.  Show me that righteous way, and grant me courage to follow You every day.  Seal my blessing by the power of the blood of Your Son.  In Yeshua’s name, Amen!”

Much in this verse reminds me of the message of Psalm 1.  Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the Torah of Adonai, and on His Torah he meditates day and night.  We “take delight in the Torah!”  That sounds a lot like the one whose “Soul (Nefesh) abides (Lun) in goodness (Tov),” as in our current verse.  God’s lasting promises typically (I have not studied them all) include both land and progeny.

Deuteronomy 4:40 “You must keep His statutes and His mitzvot, which I am commanding you today, so that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and so that you may prolong your days in the land that Adonai your God is giving you for all time.”

The promise in Deuteronomy 4:40 is that God will, “Prolong your days” in the given land, for eternity.  Our subject verse uses the Hebrew word, “Lun” for “abide.”  This is by nature a temporary dwelling or lodging.  However; there is something more permanent spoken of at the end of the verse.  There is a generational transfer anticipated, a lasting benefit.

The description of the one who has turned his life over to God continues for several more verses.  Let’s pick it up again tomorrow.  Shalom shalom.
