A Prayer For Today
Part 4

For the next several days, I want to pray into the prophesy of Zechariah 2.  It contains several parts and I want to pray into each one separately.  I’m not trying to be comprehensive.  Frankly, there are parts of this prophesy that I am still searching out.

Rabbi’s note: There are serious differences in the numbering of the verses between the Jewish Bible (TLV) and the Christian Bible.  I’m using the Tree of Life Version (TLV) but will indicate the alternative numbering in parentheses. End RN.

Zec 2:9(5) “For I”—it is a declaration of Adonai—“will be a wall of fire around it (Jerusalem) and I will be the glory inside it.”

The Lord has something very special planned for Jerusalem, the city of our God.  Isaiah 33:20 Look upon Zion, city of our Festivals. Your eyes will see Jerusalem as a quiet home, a tent that will never be folded, Its stakes never pulled up, its cords never broken. 21a For there the majestic One, Adonai, will be for us.

Rabbi Trail: How the nations want to blame every problem in the world on Jerusalem.  The United Nations (“united nonsense” as our friend Herzl calls it) wants to carve it up into an international city.  God will not be mocked.  Since 1967 (the Six Day War), all of Jerusalem has been under the undivided government of the Jewish state of Israel.  That’s not a political statement, it is a statement of faith in God’s promises over His city.  End RT.

In Hebrew, we say Jerusalem, “Yerushalayim.”  “Ayim” as a suffix on any word means “two” of them.  Such as “Regel” (leg) and “Raglayim” (two legs).  So “Yerushalayim” must mean there are two of them.  Then, in Galations and in Revelation, we learn what that means.  Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem above is free—she is our mother.  And then this from John’s vision… Revelation 21:2  I also saw the holy city—the New Jerusalem—coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  The Bride of Messiah is a people prepared for Him, but is called New Jerusalem in the vision.

By the prophet, Zechariah, God promises to be a “wall of fire” around Jerusalem.  This vision was spoken by Zechariah to the people who had witnessed its complete destruction.  Now God promises His protection to a people who are broken and in captivity.  Only in our weakness can God show forth His strength.  Yeshua is our example of this.  2Corinthians 13:4a For He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives through the power of God.

Let us pray… Lord God of heaven and earth, You are “Shomair Yisrael,” the Guardian of Israel.  Show Yourself strong in these days in which our own weakness is revealed.  Be that wall of fire around Jerusalem.  Raise up Your city, raise up Your people so that we reflect Your glory!  Oh that Israel might live before You.  One people, following the One true and living God, Yeshua HaMashiach.  We pray this in Yeshua’s name.  Amen.
