The Upper Room Discourse (part 94 of ???)
John 17:24 “Father, I also want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory—the glory You gave Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”
The glory of Yeshua is a reflection of His Father’s love, and He wants us to see it and actually partake in it. The Greek word for “glory” (as we studied a few days ago) is “Doxa. The Hebrew Shoresh for “glory” used in “The Delitzsch Hebrew Gospels” for John 17:24 is “Kavod,” meaning weighty or serious.
I point this out to contrast it with another Hebrew word for glory, “Tiferet.” Both words can be translated as “glory” or “splendor.” So why have two completely different words? Incidentally, they actually appear together in many verses of Scripture, especially regarding the robes of the High Priest where they are called “holy garments… of glory and splendor” in Exodus 28:2.
The medal of honor given in Israel uses the word “Kavod.” As I researched the answer to my question, I didn’t find any obvious answers. Rabbi’s Note: I’m traveling to Israel next week (for 3 weeks) and will seek some answers while I’m there. Hopefully, I’ll find someone who knows. End RN. The best I can do at this point is to say “Tiferet” places an emphasis on outward beauty (it emanates), while “Kavod” places and emphasis on inward beauty (intrinsic).
Yeshua humbled Himself on the Cross. Philippians 2:8 He humbled Himself— becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. The result is His glory. Hebrews 1:3 This Son is the radiance of His glory and the imprint of His being, upholding all things by His powerful word. When He had made purification for our sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
These things are eternal. The Father has always loved His Son, and His Son has always loved those who follow Him. Yeshua has all glory… 1 Peter 4:11b So in all things may God be glorified through Messiah Yeshua—all glory and power to Him forever and ever! Amen. And He shares His glory with us, so that we might be glorified together with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:20 For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
And we close today with this… 1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Yeshua prayed that we, His followers, would see His glory, and we know that we become what we behold. That’s what happened to Moses when he came down from being in God’s presence. May it happen to us as well.
