Shalom,

The Upper Room Discourse (part 82 of ???)

John 17:20 “I pray not on behalf of these only, but also for those who believe in Me through their message.”

I’m glad to get to this verse because it is inclusive.  Yeshua’s is praying to the Father, and tells Him that His prayer for holiness (John 17:17 “Make them holy in the truth. Your word is truth.”) is not only for the twelve Apostles, but for every believer in their Message, in every age.

And, while we’re on the topic, what is the message of the Apostles?  I like to use Scripture to prove Scripture.  This is much better than my opinion of Scripture.  We find these words in 2 Peter 3:2.  I have taken them out of context, but have not changed their meaning at all.  The message of the Apostles is being described.  The message is… 2 Peter 3:2 (in part) …the words previously proclaimed by the holy prophets and the commandment of our Lord and Savior….

That’s right, there is nothing original in the message of the Apostles.  In fact, Yeshua says there is nothing original in His own message.  John 12:49 “For I did not speak on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and speak. 50 And I know that His commandment is life everlasting. Therefore what I say, I say just as the Father has told Me.”

This is why Yeshua could answer Philip… John 14:9 Yeshua said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you haven’t come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own; but the Father dwelling in Me does His works.

Whom would you like to have pray for you?  Agree with me, that Yeshua’s prayers are effective.  Consider that all authority is given to Him (both in heaven and on earth).  Yeshua spoke this to His Apostles after His resurrection.  Matthew 28:18 And Yeshua came up to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Also, Judah (verse 4) tells us He alone is Lord… “our only Master and Lord, Yeshua the Messiah.”

Of course Yeshua’s prayers are effective!  And even better, He has prayed for your holiness.  That’s good news that should compel us to praise Him.  Psalm 150:1a Halleluyah! Praise God in His Sanctuary! 6 Let every thing that has breath praise Adonai. Halleluyah!

Week 49
Memory Verse: Galatians 2:19 For through law I died to law, so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Messiah; 20 and it is no longer I who live, but Messiah lives in me. And the life I now live in the body, I live by trusting in Ben-Elohim—who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
