Shalom,

Psalms
Psalm 21:3(2) – Part 2

Psalm 21:3(2)  You granted Him His heart’s desire, and You did not withhold the request of His lips. Selah

This verse (3) has to be paired with yesterday’s verse (2) to be understood and appreciated.  Who is the “You” mentioned twice, and Who is the “Him” mentioned with “His heart?”  These are questions that demand an answer, and the answer is critical to our understanding of the rest of the Psalm.

Back to the question… Who is doing the “granting” of His “heart’s desire?” God the Father is the “You” granting His (the Son’s) heart’s desire.  (Note: We’ll learn tomorrow that His heart’s desire is eternal life.)  Is this answer consistent with the rest of Scripture?  John 3:35  The Father loves the Son and has given everything into His hand.

Rabbi Trail:  In the very next verse, John 3:36, Yeshua makes an unbreakable connection between “trust” and “obedience.”  John 3:36 He who trusts in the Son has eternal life. He who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.  This “flies in the face” of the hyper-grace movement (“all you need is love” and “grace covers all sin”).  We demonstrate (prove) our trust in Yeshua through obedience to His commandments.  End RT.

Just as the Father loves the Son, so the Son loves the Father.  The amazing thing about the love of the divine family is that we are included.  1John 4:14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son as Savior of the world. 15  If anyone acknowledges that Yeshua is Ben-Elohim, God abides in him and he abides in God. 16  So we have come to know and trust in the love that God has for us. God is love. Now whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 In this way, love is made perfect among us, so that we should have boldness on the Day of Judgment. For just as He is, so also are we in this world.

Finally, what makes this love even better is that our love for each other is part of it.  1John 4:20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that the one who loves God should also love his brother. Shalom shalom.
