Shalom,
Psalms
Psalm 21:1(1a),2(1b) – Part 1
Psalm 21:1(1a) For the music director, a psalm of David. 2(1b) Adonai, the King rejoices in Your strength! How greatly He delights in Your salvation.
We learn right up front exactly what this Psalm is all about… 2(1b) Adonai, the King (The Father) rejoices in Your strength! We begin by addressing Adonai, Who is Yehovah (the YHVH (Yud-Hey-Vav-Hey), and letting Him know “the King rejoices in Your (YHVH’s) strength.” We’re going to see “Adonai”(YHVH) is Yeshua and “The King” is “God, the Father.”
(Lengthy) Rabbi Trail: The YHVH name for God is specifically used in the Hebrew Scriptures more than 6,200 times. That name is spelled with four Hebrew letters as indicated above, and can only be pronounced by anyone who knows Hebrew as Yehovah. Many people believe it is not possible to know the correct pronunciation because there are no vowel pointings, but this is not true.
Almost all Hebrew in Israel is written, read and pronounced without the “crutch” of vowel pointings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niqqud Of course, the Temple Institute, in their plans to reestablish the sacrificial system within the third Temple know how to say that name, as the High Priest must speak it from within the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur afternoon. Let’s look further into this.
God identifies Himself this way to Moses… Exodus 6:2 God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am Adonai(YHVH). (TLV) Exodus 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty (El Shaddai), but by my name JEHOVAH I was not known to them.
Out of reverence for the ineffable (unmentionable) name of God, the rabbis have chosen to substitute “Adonai.” Adonai is a plural form (similar to “Elohim,” which is also a plural form) of the word for “Lord” or “Master,” “Adon” in the singular. Many non-Jewish Christians have chosen to use another substitute, “Yahweh.” This name is derived from a failed attempt to pronounce the four consonants (YHVH) without pronouncing any vowels (an impossibility).
Let’s take this a little further. God wants His people to know Him by name, His proper name. It is a lie that we can use the name of any false God to approach the one true and living God. These substitutes are a masterpiece work of God’s adversary, whose name means “adversary,” “Satan.” God prophesies through Isaiah… Isaiah 42:8 “I am Adonai (Yehovah)—that is My Name! My glory I will not give to another, Or My praise to graven images. End RT.
Let me offer you my amplified version of this text… Psalm 21:1b(2) Yehovah, in Your strength, The King shall rejoice. In Your Yeshua (Salvation) He will abundantly exult. One is rejoicing and exulting at the “Other’s” strength and Salvation. To understand this verse, and consequently the entire Psalm, we must know Who is the rejoicing King, and Who is the strong Savior. This is a story of Father and Son.
Revelation 19:1 After these things, I heard something like the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, shouting: “Halleluyah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God…. 6 Then I heard… the voice… saying, “Halleluyah! For Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot reigns!…Rev 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The One riding on it is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness…. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which He is called is “the Word of God.”
Knowing the Son, Adonai(YHVH) (Yehovah – Yeshua), and God, our Father our King (Avinu Malkenu), is like the top button of a shirt. Miss this, and nothing else in Scripture lines up. Get it right, and everything fits. This is both an exciting and challenging time to be alive. Shalom shalom.
