Rabbi’s Reflections – Thursday, November 2, 2023
Shalom,
Rabbi’s Note: Usually I write the RR in the morning for publication later that evening. So, under normal circumstances, I would be writing this Thursday RR on Wednesday morning, but I’m having kidney surgery on Wednesday morning, so I’m writing this a day early. Please pray for a successful surgery and a speedy and complete recovery. Also, notes to my email address might not be answered as quickly as usual. Thank you for your prayers. End RN.
Life In The Body part 29 – Romans, part 204
Romans 13:13 Let us walk properly as in the day—not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and envy.
There are three “nots” in this verse. The intro tells us to “walk properly” like people do in the daytime. The first “not” is an admonition not to carry on in a wild manner with mind altering drugs. The second “not” is a warning to avoid fleshly desires outside the covenant of marriage. And then the third “not” relates to our interpersonal relationships; we are told to avoid “strife and envy.”
Our “walk” with the Lord is critical to our overall witness. It is amazing how much scripture relates to this. A witness for God is not only a verbal testimony, it is a life, lived in a way that puts His goodness on display. 1Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Yesterday, we meditated on the value of walking in the light. Now I want to add Yeshua’s teaching to it. John 11:9 Yeshua answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours in the day? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of the world. 10 But if a man should walk around at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
Yeshua is the light… John 12:46 As light I have come into the world, so that everyone who trusts in Me should not remain in darkness. And one last section of Scripture today (intentionally shorter than usual). Ephesians 5:8 For once you were darkness, but now in union with the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
