Rabbi’s Reflections – Monday,November 6, 2023
Shalom,

Rabbi’s Note: I’m making a steady recovery from kidney surgery.  Thank you for praying.  Please also continue to lift up Dr. Raymond Finney (ICU Blount Memorial Hospital) and Jonathan Bernis (ICU Dallas, TX).  Lord, bring them back to robust health.

Life In The Body part 30 – Romans, part 205

Romans 13:14 Instead, put on the Lord Messiah Yeshua, and stop making provision for the flesh—for its cravings.

This is a great way to finish Romans, chapter 13.  “Put on the Lord.”  May everything that concerns His being cover us.  Although we are made of flesh, let us make no provisions for the lust of the flesh.  The spirit and the flesh are waging war over our will.  Paul tells the Galatians the solution is to submit to the Spirit (Ruach).  Galatians 5:16  But I say, walk by the Ruach, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.

The world has its attractions, but our attraction must be to the creator and not to the creation.  1John 2:16 For everything in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the boasting of life—is not from the Father but from the world.  We need God’s perspective so that the struggle will result in our identity being in Yeshua.  1John 2:17 The world is passing away along with its desire, but the one who does the will of God abides forever.

So we “stop making provision for the flesh.”  1Peter 2:11  Loved ones, I urge you as strangers and sojourners to keep away from the fleshly cravings that war against the soul.  Yeshua, Himself, was tempted.  Matthew 4:1 Then Yeshua was led by the Ruach into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  And likewise, we also will be tempted.  1Peter 1:6 You rejoice in this greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials.

Did you notice this quote, “You rejoice in this greatly?”  Let me ask, in what do we rejoice greatly?  Read the previous verse… “By trusting… you are being protected by God’s power… for salvation yet to be revealed.”  Let’s rejoice greatly that our reality is this promise… 1Peter 1:7 These trials are so that the true metal of your faith (far more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire) may come to light in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Messiah Yeshua.  Shalom shalom.
