Life In The Body part 13 – Romans, part 188

Rom 12:14 Bless those who persecute you—bless and do not curse.

Paul is giving us instruction on how to live in a way that reflects the character of Yeshua.  This is a tough one.  He says we are to “bless those who persecute” us.  I want to ask Paul, “In whose world?”  His likely answer, “In Yeshua’s world.”

Luke 23:34a  But Yeshua was saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”  Yeshua was praying blessings on His persecuters and so should we on ours.  This is not new from Paul, Yeshua gave the same instruction in His Sermon on the Mount.  Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

In all honesty, I’m not a “quadrant four” on this issue.

Rabbi Trail:  Some of you, who heard the messages I delivered at Shomair on Yom Kippur which were based on the teachings of John Paul Jackson on the character continuum (there were two https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shomair+yisrael+messianic+synagogue) already know to what I am referring.  People who have fully matured in both character and gifting are “quadrant four” people.  Only Yeshua is “quadrant four” all the time.  The rest of us are there more or less, some more and some less.  End RT.

How do we move along the continuum into more of a “quadrant four” lifestyle?  Philippians 2:5 Have this attitude in yourselves, which also was in Messiah Yeshua,… 8a He humbled Himself.  When we think we deserve better, that’s pride.  Luke 17:10 So you too, when you’ve done everything you are commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves. We have done only what we were supposed to do.’”

No doubt, this is one of our biggest challenges.  The victory is ours when we trust God to win the battle… Psalm 47:3 For Adonai Elyon is awesome, a great King over all the earth. 4 He subdues peoples under us, and nations under our feet.  Oh Lord, may every knee bow to You, for You are Lord over all.

Psalm 18:47 Adonai lives! And blessed be my Rock! Exalted be God my salvation! 48 God—He gives me vengeance and subdues peoples under me. 49 He delivers me from my enemies. Indeed You lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man. 50 Therefore I praise You among the nations, Adonai, and sing praises to Your Name. 51 Great victories He gives to His king. He shows loyal love to His anointed—to David and his seed, forever.
