Shalom,

The Lessons Of Job, part 7
Satan is tricky.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you are able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

We must forgive… 2Corinthians 2:11 so that we might not be outwitted by satan—for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

Satan is a liar.  Yeshua said as much… Satan, John 8:44b …does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks lies he is just being himself—for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Rabbi Trail:  Satan uses God’s words (which are always the truth) as a weapon to tear us down.  God’s purpose is to build us up.  Isaiah 41:10  Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Surely I will help you. I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.  Never give in to Satan’s lies.  End RT.

Then why are so many fooled by Satan’s lies?  Because he starts with the truth, but then he twists it so that we no longer know or believe the simple truth.  Watch how Satan manipulates the truth to Eve.  Genesis 3:1b “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from all the trees of the garden’?”  Eve corrected him, but then she got it wrong.  Genesis 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, “Of the fruit of the trees, we may eat. 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat of it and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”  You know the story.  God never said, “You must not touch it.”  Check God’s instruction in Genesis 2:17.  This was given to Adam just before God created Eve.  So Adam probably taught his wife Eve, perhaps incorrectly (the Bible doesn’t say).  We’re still under the curse because Adam and Eve believed Satan’s lies.

Let’s return now to the book of Job in chapter 32.  After Job’s friends had their say, a younger man, Elihu, becomes angry at both Job and his friends.  His speech to them is a full 6 chapters long.  Elihu is never called Job’s friend, he is a friend of Job’s friends.  After four of those chapters, he shows himself to be a fool.  Job 36:4 For truly, my words are not false; one who is perfect in knowledge is with you.  Ahhh, the arrogance of youth.

Let me offer some resolution to the temptation to believe the devil.  You’re probably not as good as people say you are, and you’re probably not as bad either.  In fact, the best thing we can do to avoid the traps of satan is to get our identity from God and not from man.  Man is imperfect, but God is perfect.  God loves you because His creation is lovely.  He proved His love for us by sending His Son.

1John 4:9 The love of God was revealed among us by this—that God sent His one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 This is love—not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atonement for our sins.  Shalom shalom.
