Shalom,
Psalms
Psalm 23:6 – Part 13
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of Adonai forever.
And now, the final phrase of Psalm 23, “… and I will dwell in the House of Adonai forever.” “To dwell” in Hebrew is “Yeshev.” It is a constant theme in the Scriptures, being used well over 1,000 times. Psalm 84:11(10) For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather stand at the threshold of the House of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
The connotation of “dwelling together” is that of a marriage. “Dwelling” describes living together with your family. This family home has an owner (Also called in Hebrew, “Lord of the house.”) The positive confession is that “I,” or “we” in the plural, will dwell with our Lord, Whose name is Yehovah(YHVH). We will dwell with our Lord of the House in our official appointment as the Bride of Messiah.
Revelation 21:2 I also saw the holy city—the New Jerusalem—coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
As I’m writing this, I’m influenced by the thought that we have not yet come to grips with what it means to dwell in the House of God forever. Imagine being loved completely and living in the presence of perfection for eternity. 1Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, “Things no eye has seen and no ear has heard, that have not entered the heart of mankind—these things God has prepared for those who love Him.”
What things has God prepared for those who love Him? That’s our subject, to live in His presence, praising and worshipping Him for the length of our days. Who could ask for anything more? In Hebrew we say, “Ayn Od” meaning “there is nothing more.” Shalom shalom.
