The Lord Will Return As Judge – Romans, part 14
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. In unrighteousness they suppress the truth, 19 because what can be known about God is plain to them—for God has shown it to them. 20 His invisible attributes—His eternal power and His divine nature—have been clearly seen ever since the creation of the world, being understood through the things that have been made. So people are without excuse—
There it is, just a few words into verse 18… “against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.” God will not be mocked. The wrath of God will be revealed. It will be poured out. The day of judgment is coming.
Malachi 3:19 (4:1) “For behold, the day is coming —it will burn like a furnace— when all the proud and every evildoer will become stubble. The day that is coming will set them ablaze” —says Adonai-Tzva’ot— “leaving them neither root nor branch.” 20 (4:2) “But for you who revere My Name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings. Then you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. 21 (4:3) You will trample on the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I am making,” says Adonai-Tzva’ot.
Look who is getting burned, the proud and every evildoer. So, why are people walking in the earth like this is not going to happen? In a word, deception. They are deceived. In another word, delusion. They are deluded. 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Ruach clearly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, following deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.
Here is another question, “Why are the proud identified as the objects of God’s wrath?” The “proud” think and act as if they know more than God. There is an “I know better” mentality among the proud. Satan’s original sin was based in pride. Isaiah 14:12a How you have fallen from heaven, 13a You said in your heart: “I will ascend to heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
Three Scriptures follow here. The first is an admonition to be humble. The other two are warnings against pridefulness.
Jacob 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of Adonai, and He shall lift you up.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be lowly in spirit with the afflicted than to share the spoil with the proud.
Isaiah 2:12 For the day of Adonai-Tzva’ot will be against anyone proud and haughty, against anyone lifted up—he will be humbled.
Rabbi Trail: I want you to remember this RR. Last Tuesday night, the elders of Shomair had a meeting (nothing strange in that, we do most Tuesday nights). During that meeting, the Lord turned our focus toward the beauty and power of humility (the opposite of pride). You’re going to hear much more about this soon. We have a sense that it will bring change for the better among our Shomair community. That’s all I’m going to say about it for now. End RT.
The revelation of Yeshua to the whole earth is yet to come…. Psalm 98:2 Adonai has made His salvation known. He has revealed His righteousness before the eyes of the nations. What follows is an admonition to celebrate. Psalm 98:4a Shout joyfully to Adonai, 5a Sing praises to Adonai 6a With trumpets and sound of the shofar. And, why should we celebrate His return? Psalm 98:9b for He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with fairness.
