(Early) Shabbat Shalom,

Salutations and Summary, part 13 – Romans, part 263

The call to righteousness is unmistakeable.  There are three consecutive chapters of Romans dedicated to it.  Romans 6, 7, & 8 make God’s demand for His people to walk in holiness unavoidable.  Then why are so many of His people walking in delusion?

Romans 6:1b Are we to continue in sin… 2a May it never be!… 4b so we too might walk in newness of life…. 6b so we no longer serve sin.  (We are) 7b …set free from sin…. 11 So also continually count yourselves both dead to sin and alive to God in Messiah Yeshua.

For those who are struggling with sin (and everyone will at some point in his/her walk with Yeshua), Romans 6, 7 & 8 together form Paul’s prescription to be set free.  Read these chapters at least twice a day, when you rise up and when you lie down, until you are truly set free.  John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!  Well established habits are hard to break.  God’s people are called to live in victory.

There is an eternal struggle between the flesh and the spirit.  Victory over sin (fleshly desires) is a spiritual matter.  Romans 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Ruach you put to death the deeds of the body, you shall live.  Although it hasn’t been specifically mentioned in these terms, this is the battle between the works of the flesh and the grace of the spirit.

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and incurable—who can know it?  Yes, “It’s a heart thang!”  And everything (including our hearts) must be washed clean by the blood of Yeshua… Matthew 26:28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the removal of sins.  Yes!  It is Yeshua’s blood that gives us the victory.

Revelation 1:5b To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood 6a and made us a kingdom, kohanim to His God and Father.  We are a kingdom of priests, called to a life of purity as we perform priestly duties on behalf of others (intercession). Revelation 18:4 Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you participate in her sins and receive her plagues!

It is one thing to receive a prescription and another thing to take it.  Take this prescription, read these 3 chapters until they become part of who you are, then walk in victory.  Shalom shalom.
