Shavuah Tov,

Salutations and Summary, part 7 – Romans, part 257

Romans 16:25b (the gospel)… according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret for long ages 26a but now is revealed and through the Writings of the Prophets has been made known to all the nations.

What “mystery” is revealed through the prophets, and made known to the gentiles?

Rabbi Trail:  The Hebrew word for “nations” is “Goyim.”  (One nation equals one goy.)  In the Hebrew mindset, there is those who are “us” and those who are “them.”  If you’re one of us, you’re Jewish and if you’re one of them, you’re a part of the nations, aka a goy.  That is until the mystery of which Paul is speaking.  End RT.

The mystery is the inclusion of the gentiles into the family of God.  Ephesians 3:6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are joint heirs and fellow members of the same body and co-sharers of the promise in Messiah Yeshua through the Good News.

Rabbi’s note:  I’m sorry to use the writings of Paul (Ephesians) as prooftext for the writings of Paul (Romans).  Maybe I can do better…. End RN.

This is also the testimony of the Old Testament prophets… Jeremiah 4:2b “The nations will bless themselves in Him and in Him they will glory.”  Then Isaiah prophesies Yeshua as a light to the nations (Gentiles).  Isaiah 42:6 “I, Adonai, called You in righteousness, I will take hold of Your hand, I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations.   And this one we all know… Genesis 12:3b “…in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

But back to Paul… Colossians 1:26 the mystery that was hidden for ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His kedoshim. 27 God chose to make known to them this glorious mystery regarding the Gentiles—which is Messiah in you, the hope of glory!

The mystery regarding the Gentiles… is Messiah in you (written to the Gentile Colossians).   How wonderful that God is inclusive of people from all backgrounds.  Revelation 19:7a Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him! Shalom shalom.
