Rabbi’s Reflections – Thursday, January 12, 2023
Shalom,
Let’s start with a bonus. In Romans 1:2, Paul says the prophets wrote of the very Messiah that he was proclaiming. Yesterday we quoted from the first 3 (in order of the TLV). Today, let’s quote from the next 3, just for starters…
Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a youth I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.”
Joel 2:23 So be glad, children of Zion, and rejoice in Adonai, your God. For He gives you the early rain for prosperity, Yes, He will bring down rain for you, the early and latter rain as before…. 27 You will know that I am within Israel. Yes, I am Adonai your God —there is no other— Never again will My people be shamed.”
Amos 9:11 “In that day I will raise up David’s fallen sukkah. I will restore its breaches, raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in days of old.
Summary: The Son of David is Yeshua, our Savior, the Son of God. He will save His people from destruction and restore all things. Many rabbis have realized that for prophecy to be fulfilled, Yeshua had to come before the destruction of the Second Temple. Without the record keeping of the Second Temple period, it is impossible to prove the Savior’s lineage.
Unto Us A Son Is Given – Romans, part 3
Romans 1:3 Concerning His Son, He came into being from the seed of David according to the flesh.
The prophet Nathan spoke these words to King David near the end of his life… 2 Samuel 7:12 When your days are done and you sleep with your fathers, I will raise up your seed, who will come forth from you after you, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He will build a house for My Name, and I will establish his royal throne forever. 14 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.
Sounds like Nathan could be prophesying of Solomon, but this is a prophecy of things not yet done, while Solomon had already been born. Yeshua came 1,000 years later. Add to that, the “forever” part in verse 13, “I will establish his royal throne forever.” That didn’t happen to Solomon.
If that’s not enough, we have 2 Samuel 7:16 “So your house and your kingship will be secure forever before you; your throne will be established forever.” The rabbis agree this is a Messianic prophecy, but they refuse to believe Yeshua is the One.
Yeshua rightly called out to them… Luke 19:43 For the days will come upon you when your enemies will surround you with barricades and hem you in on all sides. 44 And they will smash you to the ground—you and your children within you. And they won’t leave within you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
Yeshua came in the flesh, a fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah. Isaiah 9:5a For to us a child is born, a son will be given to us. The Scriptures are consistent. The message is clear. Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of time came, God sent out His Son, born of a woman and born under law— 5 to free those under law, so we might receive adoption as sons. Believe it and receive it.
