FROM THE EAST

From the East

The name MIQEDEM, which in Biblical Hebrew means “from the east” is a reference to the theme running throughout the Bible that associates coming into the Promise from the east. For example, Adam is created outside the garden, and being placed into a land prepared for him, from the east, much like Abraham was called from an eastern land to inhabit a land prepared for him and his family.

The sun rises in the east.  So too the rising of the Son of God is connected to the east.  A lot of things start in the east.  Like every day that the Lord has made.

Singing the Scriptures

MIQEDEM is an Israeli worship band from Tel Aviv, Israel, made up of young Israeli believers in Jesus.  They sing the Scriptures in Hebrew with a distinctive Middle Eastern flavor. Their music is a unique combination traditional Middle Eastern, African and modern Western styles, ranging from energetic praise (like Psalm 150), to prayerful ballads such as Psalm 13.

Jamie Hilsden

Under the direction of their leader Jamie Hilsden, MIQEDEM is making their second stop in Knoxville, TN. They gave an awe-inspiring concert at our previous building, packing the house last July. This year we also anticipate a full house in our new, larger sanctuary here on Boyds Bridge Pike in East Knoxville.  In 2015 the band recorded their first self-titled album, and in April 2018 released their second album, simply called Vol. II.  Since the band’s inception they have played in 9 countries and 20 US states.  They regularly perform in Israel.

The band is based in Tel Aviv and began in 2015, originally forming as a worship team representing Israel at the Messiah Conference in Pennsylvania.  All of their lyrics are from the original text of the Hebrew Scriptures.  The vision of the band is to expose believers in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) and non-believers to the beauty and depth of truth of the Bible, both in Israel and all of the nations of the earth.

In 2015 the band recorded their first self-titled album, and in April 2018 released their second album, simply called Vol. II.  Since the band’s inception they have played in 9 countries and 20 US states.  They regularly perform in Israel.

MIQEDEM’s music is a unique combination traditional Middle Eastern, African and modern Western styles, ranging from energetic praise (like Psalm 150), to prayerful ballads such as Psalm 13. Their concerts typically last about 1 1/2 hours, including short teachings and

explanations of the songs being sung. The band provides overheads with both translation and transliteration of the songs.

Shomair Yisrael (means “watchman of Israel”) is a Messianic Jewish congregation (Jews who believe in Jesus).  It was founded in Knoxville 21 years ago to provide a place for Jewish and non-Jewish people alike to learn about and follow the Messiah, Yeshua, in the fullness of His Jewishness.

In December of last year the congregation sold their location on Sutherland Avenue and purchased their new location on at 3811 Boyds Bridge Pike, not far from Holston Hills Country Club.

Rabbi H Michael Weiner says the congregation is very excited to be inviting the entire Knoxville community to this special worship event.  “It’s a great fit for those of us in East Tennessee to make a direct and unique connection with the people of Israel,” said Rabbi Michael.

No tickets or reservations are necessary.  Just come and invite your friends to join you. Be sure to arrive early to get seats near the front.  Shalom.
